Neighbors have circulated e-mail messages about at least five home burglaries or attempted burglaries within the last two weeks.
In two of the cases, witnesses reported seeing an older model maroon Mercury four-door sedan, possibly a Sable.
One incident took place in the 6600 block of Monticello, one at the corner of Revere Place and Delmar Avenue, another on Kenwood Avenue, east of Abrams — all this week — and two on Casa Loma Avenue in the Gastonwood-Coronado Hills area.
The burglary on Monticello occurred when the homeowner and her 6-month-old child were away. According to the report, the burglar entered through an unlocked door and made off with unspecified property. Jewelry was found scattered about, and the homeowner speculated the family dog surprised the thief.
A man broke into the Kenwood house while the owner and 1-year-old son were inside. The intruder fled when the resident began screaming. The man reportedly parked in the driveway, knocked on the front door, and went around back after getting no answer.
