Veronica Kimbrell, Samantha Schoenecker and Greer Lambert are ready for an adventure at Science Camp.
Did you hear? On April 9th, at exactly 10:00A.M., the Lakewood 5th graders began a three day field trip to Collin County Adventure Camp. During the trip the Lakewood kids had time to interact and play games with the fifth graders of Hexter Elementary.
Lakewood participants rode a bus all the way from Lakewood Elementary to Collin County. They got their baggage out from the bus and got assigned to their cabins (Smart Wood, Lemmon Mint, or Basket Flower) and then ate their lunch. After lunch Lakewood went to the dining area to meet their counselor and off to a hike through the woods. During the hike the students observed many different examples of life science. After the hike Lakewood went to eat a lasagna dinner and then straight to bed.
Day two of camp, the students had another hike but this time around the lake to their next lesson which was canoeing and paddle boating. The paddle boating was so much fun! They learned about the macro organisms which are tiny but visible living things. After that everyone went to the lake to catch these creatures, then on to the Education Center to play games.
On the third day the students went to a Challenge Course and did archery. Then every cabin had to come up with a skit for that night at the bonfire. At the bonfire they sang songs with the Hexter students and everyone performed their skits. The highlight of the night was probably watching Mr. Pattillo, Hexter reading teacher and husband of Mrs. Pattillo the Lakewood librarian, do the "Soulja Boy" dance. He had the moves down - especially for a teacher.
The campout was exciting for everyone there - even the teachers!! But the most important thing is that Lakewood kids learned about science.
