The fifth annual Lakefest, put together by the White Rock Lake Foundation, takes place this weekend atop Boy Scout Hill near the Big Thicket at the lake's northern end.
The festival serves as a fundraiser for the organization, which works to improve the lake and its environs.
The two day festival — 10 a.m.-8p.m. May 3-4 — should draw about 10,000 people, according to organizers, up from about 7,500 last year. The food vendor area has been increased to a dozen booths, including a funnel cake stand.
A kite-flying exhibition and car show highlight the weekend's events. Paddleboat rides, pony rides, a petting zoo, bounce house, and arts and crafts area represent some of the activities.
Merchants will display and offer for sale items such as candles, art, jewelry, clothing, specialty foods, and such, and, well, families will just have a generally good time.
Weather forecasts for the weekend indicate a pleasant sunny day Saturday followed by a chance of showers Sunday, so plan accordingly.
