Longing for Truth

Pilgrims, witches, and warlocks sound like a combustible mix, but in the hands of the cast, crew, and production team at J.L. Long Middle School it promises to be a recipe for entertainment.

The school's spring musical — 7:30 p.m. May 15-17 — delves into seeking and fighting for the real meaning of "truth." The show, called "It Takes a Village of the Darned," is the third of a trilogy written by David Hirsh, husband of Long choir director Beverly Hirsh.

The first installment, "Slug City," addressed the beauty of the human species. The second, "Caveopolis," examined humanity.

"It Takes a Village of the Darned" is set during the early days of American settlement by pilgrims in a town called Wooster. Pilgrims, along with characters including comical witches and warlocks struggle with questions that define truth and, ultimately, the human soul.

General admission tickets, available at the school, cost $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Reserved seating costs $12, available by e-mail to Sally Wamre.End of story
