Neighbors Band Together for Garage Sale

People who enjoy rummaging about at garage sales will be absolutely giddy this weekend.

The Gastonwood-Coronado Hills Neighborhood Association will have its annual multi-family garage sale from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. May 17. Although the association still is arranging last-minute participants, about 30 households joined the circuit during last year's event, according to organizer Besty Porter.

"I would expect more this year because our neighborhood seems to be more involved than ever before," she said in an e-mail message.

Neighbors who participate keep all the money they take in for their junk and treasures. It costs $10 to be one of the open garages, but those proceeds help offset the cost of printing maps of the houses on the circuit.

Porter needs to know by the end of today who wants to join in the sale route so timely, accurate maps can be prepared and distributed to participating homes by Friday night.

Although the official hours of the sale run until 5 p.m., sellers can close up shop, or garage, as the case may be, at any time.

Porter described last year's event as more of a street party than garage sale, so, yeah, this one promises to be a garage sale throw-down.End of story
