This little guy, named "Safety Sam," reminds drivers to take it slow in the 6200 block of Mercedes Avenue.
Wilshire Heights Neighborhood Association President Kristine Bridges wants motorists to slow down while driving through the neighborhood and those that border it.
She and the association board have taken steps to make sure that happens.
The group was successful in getting the city to set up speed-tracking and display electronic signs — speed buggies, they're called — as a reminder to drivers to watch how fast they're going. The signs recently went up in the 6200 blocks of Anita and Winton streets.
"Many of the streets parallel to Mockingbird are being used as a thoroughfare to zip from 75 to Abrams," she said in a posted comment to a Black White Read LLC column published last month.
The group also petitioned city hall to install stop signs at the intersections along Alderson and Norris streets at they travel north-south between Mockingbird Lane and Llano Avenue.
Bridges said she expects a decision on the stop signs from the city sometime in July.

Good to know the fight goes on to get people to slow down in town. If we wanted raceways everywhere, we'd live in North Dallas. When I lived in Lakewood, we struggled with this all the time. But city officials stated it was more important to have a "uniform stop sign policy" ie: stop signs only on cross streets, not on long blocks. Of course, people and pets died because of this policy. Good to hear it might be shifting. My city councilperson did nothing so we moved. Anyway, enough venting. What I want to know is where did they get the cool yellow Safety Sam figure?
