The community puts on multiple neighborhood home tours and fundraisers of varying manners. People turn out en mass, see a few lovely houses, bid on items at auction, and buy raffle tickets.
How often, though, do people have the chance to see the results of those events?
The Lakewood Early Childhood PTA brought it home recently when the organization presented a check for $10,127 to J.L. Long Middle School. Although school officials have yet to use the money, last year's donation from the LEPTA raised from the home tour and that of the Hollywood-Santa Monica Neighborhood Association home tour and the Long Run — this year Oct. 9 — went to make a dozen items from the school's wish list a reality.
Last year's donations paid for ROTC uniforms, band and orchestra instruments, a laptop computer for the special education classroom, choir uniforms, bus transportation to the choir competitions, physical education equipment, digital cameras for the photography club, field trips, extracurricular writing classes, the science fair, Smart Boards, and trophies for the math and science team.
Nice.
